smart! by K.Rae

In a rut? Mix things up.

The quickest way to derail a personal fitness program is workout burnout. So just imagine the lives of professional athletes: week after week of the same sprints, drills, and lifts.

It’s not surprising then that Calvin Pace, formerly of the Arizona Cardinals, left the franchise to join the Jets because of the “little things,” including yoga and Pilates, the New York team offers:

“You don’t need valet service. You just want people to show you it’s all about trying to win. (The Jets) laid things out as far as yoga classes, the Pilates, training staff. Those are things I’ve never seen before in the NFL.”

Football fan or not, you can apply the Jets’ cross-training strategies to win in your own quest for fitness:

  • For runners, add a couple yoga sessions a week to increase flexibility and upper body strength
  • Gym rats can head to the park with some buddies for a little soccer and sunshine
  • Break out of your head after swimming laps via a core- and creativity-stimulating belly dance class.
